Linda Blair
Linda Blair, who was only five at the time, had grown accustomed to being placed in the spotlight. At first, as a child model or actor, she got the role as Regan the possessed girl, among 600 hopefuls, in The Exorcist, (1973). Linda quickly gained worldwide fame, was awarded the Golden Globe, and seemed to be destined to win the Academy Award for that role however, when the film's leaks revealed that certain parts of the role did not get done by her (the demon voice was recorded with Mercedes McCambridge, and eight seconds from a stunt dummy employed) the dream was shattered and, with it, likely came the first blow in what seemed to be the beginning of an A-list career. The next couple of years she had no trouble securing leading roles in a variety of movies, including the wildly successful television series Born Innocent (1974) (the top TV film of the year) as well as Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic (1975), as well as the Exorcist sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). In 1977, she purchased cocaine on the pressure of her peers at 18, this led to her being detained and a sentence of three years' probation. Linda's work in Hollywood was relegated to B films and occasional guest appearances on TV after her infamous arrest for drug possession.
